Proud to announce that we’ll be participating in the second Ascension Game Day, which will be held across the country at game stores on the weekend of February 4-6 (but as of yet, we’re the only one in Tennessee!) Shrinkwrap Sunday – 2/14/10, 3 p.m. – Stone Age!

For a change of pace, we’re going to try out a game I don’t currently carry to see if it’s worth getting a couple of copies in – Stone Age! It’s another Rio Grande game, and ranks quite well on BoardGameGeek: 7.74! Like its Rio Grande brethren, Power Grid, it’s a three-phase game, with the ultimate goal of acquiring enough food to sustain the village through the ages. Through trading, cultivation and mining, players compete for resources to make it through the harsh realities of that era.

For more information (and a really detailed overview!,) check out the full review on SophistiGames!

Shrinkwrap Sunday – Thurn & Taxis!

For this coming Sunday, we’ll be taking the shrink off of a game we just recently started carrying by Rio Grande – Thurn & Taxis!

The game has a Board Game Geek rating of 7.24 out of 10, and is based off of the historical Thurn and Taxis postal service in Bavaria. Much like games such as Power Grid, the game is based on management of multiple resources – do you buy new carriages, or connect more cities? This well-orchestrated balancing act – a traditional favorite style of Eurogames – is what made the game a Spiel des Jahres winner in 2006.

Shrinkwrap Sunday – Cardcassonne!

For this week’s Shrinkwrap Sunday – 3 p.m. on Sunday – we’re going to unwrap Cardcassonne, a recent release by Rio Grande Games! Remember, if you try it and like it, you can get that copy 30% off! Here’s the information about it, from Rio Grande’s Web site:

Do I add another 3 to the city? Then I can add my follower next turn and score lots of points. Of course, then another player may claim the row and score those points.. So, what is the answer, add to the row or maybe claim it now. Oh, what a dilemma.

In Cardcassonne the players place their cards in rows so as to make each card as valuable as possible.

A player may choose to protect a sequence of cards with a follower, but when to do so is the problem. That brings excitement to this fast, merry card game.

Weekend RPGs at Organized Play + Sunday Demo

For this weekend’s RPG schedule, we’ll be hosting several games starting at 10 a.m. with a Paragon level adventure for Living Forgotten Realms. (This adventure will take the place of our usual Pathfinder Society game, which will be back as usual next week. For newer players, there’s a level 1-4 Living Forgotten Realms adventure at 3 p.m. If you’re interested, just show up a little early – we have folks who are happy to help you make a 4th Edition character, as well as pre-generated ones!

Finally, for our Sunday Demo Day, Clint Bell will host a game of Paranoia XP. – the latest and greatest edition of the classic from Mongoose Publishing! Clint will be hosting a custom scenario designed to give players a feel of the game, as well as many, many character sheets… If you’ve never heard of Paranoia, expect to die. Often. And, hopefully, gloriously, in service to the System!
