Winchester Draft League – Cheap Packs, Cool Prizes!

Wizards just posted an exciting new draft format – a hybrid between Rochester and Winston draft – and I think it’d be a lot of fun to try it out in a league format!

Entry and What You Get:

For $10 – tax-free, because it’s an event, and a savings of more than $3! – you and a fellow battler will each receive three packs – one Scars of Mirrodin, one Mirrodin Besieged and one New Phyrexia. As long as you play in the store, we’ll recor…d the winners and losers in an Excel file throughout this month until the end of June.

The winner of each Winchester match will receive three points for the league, a complimentary booster pack and a promotional foil card. The loser will received one and a promotional foil. On July 1, we’ll add up the results, and the first place point total will receive $25 store credit. Second place will receive $15, and third will receive $10.

Details on how to play below the cut!

How to Play:
In Winchester format (more details available, including a play-through, at http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg%2Fdaily%2Fld%2F143), you first roll to determine who will make the first pick. Then, each person shuffles together the contents of their booster packs and deals out two cards *face up* in front of them to start two piles (for a total of four piles of cards.) The person who got to pick first picks one of the four cards to begin a deck, and then each player deals out an additional card into the piles – so, at this point, three piles will have two cards and one pile will have one card.

Then, the next player picks a pile of cards and will get all cards in the pile! So, that person can select one of the piles with two cards, if they choose, or get just one card from the other pile. Just as before, two cards are dealt by each player into their piles, and play proceeds in this manner until there are no cards left. Just as in any other Limited format, decks have a minimum of 40 cards with no maximum, and we’ll supply the lands!

And… that’s it! Pretty simple, right? Feel free to arrange games on this event or on the main OP Facebook page.Wizards just posted an exciting new draft format – a hybrid between Rochester and Winston draft – and I think it’d be a lot of fun to try it out in a league format!
